The hotdog and hamburger stand at the Azalea Air show on April 17 was a big
success for the ECPI chapter of the IT Exchange. Student volunteers from both
day and night classes attended the event, and although the booth was for ITE, event
organizers referred to it as the ECPI booth.
The vendors were easy-going, and the work was a breeze. Everyone that volunteered
received free food (how many hotdogs did we eat?). We ended up doing the dirty
work, because most of the food was cooked at another stand and routed (bad network pun)
to ours. One ITE volunteer would "man" the moneybox while everyone else
would make a kind of "fire line" from the food containers or soda machine to the
counter, passing the food to the customers. It was quite comical all night long.
Many of the volunteers came with friends and family and it made for an enjoyable
atmosphere. The workload was small, so it gave everyone an opportunity to walk
around and enjoy the sights of the event and smells of the many types of food being sold.
There was also live music (as well as jets) for everybody's listening pleasure. The show
concluded with firebombs and fireworks. The organizers should definitely save the F-14 that
firebombs the airstrip until after the fireworks next year. It definitely stole the show.
In a little over 9 hours, ITE volunteers raised $576.00. This will be split between the day and
evening clubs, giving each club $288.00. This really is a lot of money for a little work.
I think that most of the students that participated would agree with that. The point is,
if you have the opportunity to volunteer for an ITE or ECPI event, you should do so. I
don't think anyone broke a sweat and we all had fun.
The air show also gave students an opportunity to work with Career advisor Cindy Gouch
before her departure from ECPI. She only had to crack the whip on us a few times at the
air show. She will still be on the Parent Chapter Board so please feel free to email her at the
ITExchange website.
